NOT Closing

Postby Dagon » Tue Jul 15, 2008 6:51 pm

If you got the email, you know what this says:

To all site members,

After a lot of serious thought and difficult decision making, I have decided to close this site, effective August 1, 2008 and also subsequently distance myself from the cover community. I have been going through a lot of personal issues the past few months and, simply put, I no longer hold the ambition or desire to frequent my "old haunts." I will not be completely fading away, but will be mostly absent for the foreseeable future.

Replace the Case will be closing for essentially the same reasons that I am leaving the cover community. For those of you without credits, you will be able to buy credits until July 25, at which date I will be removing the ability to buy more. And everyone will have until August 1, 2008 0600 (GMT -5) to use them or lose them.

I wish to thank all the friends and people I have met within the community over the past 5+ years that made this a great part of my life. It's been fun.

Thank you everyone,
Russ (Dagon)
No matter where you go, there you are. :aikido:

I'll miss the site and your awesome covers!

For what it's worth, I went through sort of the same thing in 2005. My husband (of 10 years at the time) went to India for 6 weeks for his job, and when he came back, he didn't want to be married anymore. Add two kids to the mix and it gets complicated! It totally fucking sucks (no other way to put it), but you can get through it in time. Hang in there!

Russ,

Out of all the other cover places i have always considered this one to be the best, and although I have been scarce in recent months... I still considered it my home away from home. I have always felt welcomed here. You and the mods should be very proud of the site you ran here and please know that you will be missed.

My thoughts are with you and I wish you the best as you get through the difficult times ahead. You and anyone else here are always welcome at my place. Stop by once in awhile and let us know how you are doing.

Take care, friend.

Some things to remember:

What was it.. 6 years ago.. that I designed that ass-stupid Dances With Wolves cover using MSPaint and uploaded it to the Yahoo dvd cover group, then got a message from Darth Vong inviting me over to the new DVDCoverArt.com? I was member #700 there.. while it lasted. Good times. Let us not forget the epic battles with Moviefan2k4, and his trying to scan his Michael Myers mask using his flatbed scanner (Matt's epic reply still lives in my memory: YOU CANNOT SCAN A MASK). And how can I forget the amazing Johnny Spicer, and his wheels of fire wheelchair? And let us not forget the day I was messing around with Moviefan2k4, and made a duplicate of his user ID, which earned me the ultimate distinction and honor of the only person to ever have been banned from RixGrafix forums. And let us not forget the day I created a fake cease and desist letter, and emailed it to Moviefan2k4, who then had a complete mental breakdown and deleted all his covers and nearly formatted computer (which gave rise to this epic recording, made during an AIM chat session: http://www.ninjabynight.com/pwned!.mp3 ). So thanks to you, Russ and Liz, and all the other peeps from the golden days of the cover scene, Vongie, Jupiter, MajorTom, Scaramonga, DoomBear, Bobban, and all the rest. So if you ever wax nostalgic, and miss me (tho for the love of Pete, I can't imagine why you would), my main hangout is at my virtual Museum, http://www.nametagmuseum.com, and on the various DIsneyland messageboards like Micechat, and others like that. So keep it real, keep the faith, and what not. I close and sign off with those epic words:

So long, and thanks for all the fish.

Dagon I'm saddened but relieved for you. Things slowed tremendously, no fault of yours. (felt like I was one of the few remaining contributors). All the old Dagon's Den/RTC friends have moved on or just left the scene completely. Under those conditions, I would certainly have little motivation to keep a site running. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be a member and contributor. RTC will be gone but never forgotten :crybye:

Dagon,

This was the very first cover site I joined. I felt very welcomed here and learned a lot. I want to thank you for introducing me to the world of custom covers. I wish you the best in these difficult times, you will be missed and I hope to one day cross paths again.

Sad news indeed. I remember back when we were admins on DVDcoverart.com with Matt, Dagon, Darthvong, Jupiter and others.
Russ, why couldn't you simply hand over running your RTC site to one of the admins? Then you could still make your exit and not leave people's artwork in limbo. Another idea would be to export your entire site like R1DB.com, or simply invite artists to upload their work over there. Another mini-era ends.

All great things come to an end, and this is one of them. But I really don't care about the covers so much as I used to, that's my reason for not being here that often - sorry!

I hope you are okay Russ, must have been a hard decision anyways - this site is your baby :clapping:

We will miss it for sure, and I will never forget my time here. The first cover site I signed up was here, and that's been 4 years now, time sure does go quick. I hope that everyone here, oldtimer or rookie, will come and say farewell. It's been a blast. I learned stuff here, damnit :yahoo:

I hope to see you all again elsewhere and I wish Russ will come and join us whenever he feels like it, we'll miss you.

I kinda feel like Irrob here. Saddened that RTC will be gone but totally understanding your not wanting to keep it going. Although I didnt start to help out until recently I still feel bummed out. I wish you all the luck in the world Dag. Maybe you'll drop in to R1 and say hello every now and then. Thanx again for letting me part of the site.

Best wishes my friend. :)
